I am very excited to start my first day of internship with Zach Birmingham at The Port of San Diego. I am looking forward to getting experience having real responsibilities in a work environment. The building itself is really nothing special, just a "hunk of concrete" as Zach calls it, but even though it's not the most attractive building, it still feels homey and like it’s somewhere I could soon be comfortable in. Everyone I have met at the site visit was kind to me and very welcoming. Everyone I was introduced to was not only friendly to me, but each one also had at least one skill, connection, or past experience that could be helpful to me and they made it clear that they were always available to talk. I sincerely hope that over the course of this internship, I will be able to interact with the few coworkers I have met so I can take advantage of this great opportunity to learn more about the professional world. There were also a significant amount of my coworkers that were out during my site visit because of the holidays, and I really hope all or most of them are just as kind and helpful as the ones I have met already. I do fear, however, that the complete independence and freedom for work time will be challenging to get used to, and I fear that the long hours will only make it harder to be productive all day. Overall, I am really looking forward to starting tomorrow, and I know that no matter what it will be an incredible experience.
